Set in the Downtown Eastside
Historic
District, the Peters Gallery weaves
together traditional Spanish Pueblo
massing and details with contemporary
architectural elements and themes. The
facility encompasses 44,000 square feet,
8,500 of which is devoted to exhibition
space.
Rhythmically stepped adobe walls
animate the principal façade along the
Paseo de Peralta. The second story is
set back, articulating the building profile
and creating rooftop terraces. Landscaped
sculpture gardens and courtyards
enhance the museum-quality
exhibition spaces, research library and
administrative facilities. This is the
largest privately owned art gallery building in the United States.
The project received the “Best
Building of 1999” by the New Mexico
Association of General Contractors.
